Thieves steal 124 wheels from dealership in 1 night

May 3, 2019
Thieves managed to steal 124 tires and rims from vehicles at a Chevrolet dealership in Slidell, Louisiana, in one night of work in late April. According to local news reports, police estimated the value of all the property stolen to be about $120,000. Photos showed rows of vehicles suspended on wood blocks without wheels.
Surveillance video showed just two men doing all the work under the cover of darkness. They managed to yank all the wheels from 31 cars. Police suspect it could be the work of a professional crime ring, as the job appeared to completed without a hitch. Further surveillance video found a 17-foot U-Haul moving truck pull up to the dealership and enter the parking lot. About 40 minutes later, the truck left, presumably with all the stolen cargo on board.
Police say the thieves successfully defeated locks, alarms, and surveillance video, and they even manipulated the lights in the parking lot so that passersby would not be able to see them at work. But they did leave a few things behind. Police photos show all the lug nuts were discarded next to the vehicles, and there apparently was one car jack left, too. They did leave the cars on wooden blocks so as not to damage them further.
The thieves reportedly were selective in which wheels they stole, aiming for those 20 inches and larger.
The victimized dealership, Matt Bowers Chevrolet, is offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspects. Police haven't revealed any leads they may have, as the surveillance footage hasn't led to any identifications or arrests.
